PVD for Decorative Applications: A Review

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a widely utilized process in various industrial applications, serving as protective and hard coating. However, its presence fields like fashion has only recently emerged, electroplating processes had previously dominated this reality. The future looks toward the replacement of most hazardous toxic electrochemical processes, especially those involving Cr(VI) cyanide galvanic baths, which have been restricted by European Union. Unfortunately, complete substitution with PVD coatings not feasible. Currently, combination both techniques employed to achieve new aesthetic features, including broader color range diverse textures, rendering de facto primary interest for decorative field industry. This review aims outline guidelines industries regarding emphasize recent advancements, quality control procedures, limitations.
